Rahway Indoor Competition - 2002/2003 Winter

3/3/2003 Game for 13-th place

	Tornado - Bora 2 - 4

2/24/2003 Game 7

	Tornado - J.A. United 4 - 2

We had one of those real "Tornado - spirit" games last night. I think the other team (JA United) will remember this game for a while. We won playing "Tornado - style" despite very dirty style by JA United and several very obvious non-calls by referee.

2/17/2003 Game 6

	Tornado - Newark Stars 5 - 8

2/3/2003 Game 5

	Tornado - SPF F.C. 8 - 3

AK: As Rikshpun said, it was farewell performance for Genya Korsunsky going away to Boston. We played 40-min. non-stop action/pressure that allowed us to achieve this result. Our opponent yesterday was no different than the ones we played before (with exception of one team). We had enough players and made timely substitutions.

We scored a lot of goals, almost the same amount, as all previous games combined. We missed, probably the same amount of scoring chances (old problem).

GV: Not only was it a performance for Korsunsky but also by him - the first game that he joins us in this competition. Vova also came to help for the first time. In general, we not only had new players but we also had the most ever - great attendance!

As is usual for us in indoor games, we opened the game very aggressively and led the score. SPF was just about to get back in the game and hope for a draw in the middle of the game when our endless energy through many substitutions just killed them.

We also had the most spectators this game as Moldovan brought his sister and other relatives to cheer for us.

Our first goal came with a gorgeous, perfect shot in the upper-right corner of the goal by Jenn from a distance. He hit it from the left flank.

1/27/2003 Game 4

	Tornados - U-Stars 4 - 6
	A. Rikshpun (2+1)
	E. Voitkevich (1)

GV: We played very well but we lost - we have more to improve.

We started out great and we pulled up and pressed the opponent consistently for the first time. We were dominating the URI Stars and the results came through - we got ahead 3:0. One of the goals was by Rikshpun from behind the orange line and it counted for two.

But we had our problems. We had only one substitution and people didn't even use it. I replaced myself two times, Ljonja started out on the bench and came out once more and Kouzma was the only other player we substituted. But we didn't use the substitution not because everybody was in great shape and could run like the wind all game.

Alik was having a bad passing day and many of the goal kicks ended up in their forwards right in front of our goal. I remember how I had to take a nasty, powerful shot in the butt when I had to block one of these turnovers.

It didn't help that people stopped coming back to help when they got tired.

We did miss many great chances, though. Luck was not on our side.

FR: We lost because our physical shape is not to the level it should be. When we were pressing, we played better, we scored goals, we didn't let the opposing team to do anything. But we only did this for the first 10 minutes of the game. After that we got tired and let the other team get back into the game.

1/13/2003 Game 3

	Tornados - Thistle 3 - 7
	L. Fursin (1)

GV: A sad loss. The team we played wasn't all that impressive, maybe comparable to the first one we played. We missed plenty of chances and we hit the posts many times. They hit the post a few times too but they converted nicely on their chances.

In general, we continue to stay in our half too much. We started off with the instrucions to keep people personally and stay close to them. Only one defender was supposed to go forward once in a while and the other two were supposed to cover. That didn't seem to work too well for us.

I got beaten a few times by standing very close to the forward and a surprising sprint on his part, followed by a nice pass was very dangerous for us.

Nemetz kept with his recent trend to shout and criticize people on the field. He is going through the same stage that many of us went through. He left the game in the middle after he saw people responding to him to shut up. So, we played the second half of the game with only one substitution.

I think we should rethink our tactics. My feeling is that defenders should be thinking about going to the middle of the field all the time and stop only if they see a guy being left uncovered.

1/6/2003 Game 2

	TORNADO - REAL MADRID 1 - 7
	E. Voitkevich

YR: We lost to Real Madrid. What else needs to be said? :)

I said it before and say again - we lost to a stronger team. That's what soccer is - the stronger team wins. They played smart. Nice dribling where it was needed, very good passing, good feel of the field, pressure.

AK: I know how we play, if opponent scores first, we have a hard time to score back. Sometimes we can maintain the score, sometime we will collapse. This is what happened yesterday, we collapsed after first goal.

We didn't have leadership in our defense yesterday. This is a time when you appreciate work, that Alex G, Alex R doing in the middle back.

However, what we can learn from yesterday's game and prevent it in the future is: First pass from goalie, all defensemen have to support it, not one, but all three. They scored 3 goals because of that.
