What a game! We must win to make top 4 as Sabor beat Raza.

Yura draws first blood 1-0. Scores from sharp angle off the post but seemed like the keeper should've had it. Chiapas equalizes 1-1. Long shot from 15 meters outside the box goes over Alik. Chapas scores 2-1. Alex Rikshpun makes it 2-2 as keeper comes out to play the ball but misses. Alex scores into open net. That's where Chiapas defense starts falling apart. 5-6 100% chances but still no goal. Finally, Maradona scores as he is left 1 on 1 with keeper in the box, 3-2! Pizdets! 15 minutes left at max. We have tons of chances, constant 3 on 1s, 3 on 2s. Chiapas equalizes 3-3! Ebany v rot! Yura goes 1 on 1 what seemed like last chance to win but goalie saves! All of a sudden Maradona scores as he chips the goalie, 4-3. And finally Zhenya R. scores as he goes 1 on 1 with keeper, waits for defender to catch him, beats the defender and scores between the keeper's legs!!!

Now Raza plays Rutgers, we play Chiapas again!

9/16/2001 GAME 22

                 TORNADO - CHIAPAS 2 - 3

                 Y. Ryazanov (1)

First goal by Yura 1-0. Pass in between 2 defenders by Charlie, Yura
makes no mistake. Chiapas equalizes 1-1. Yura has a breakaway but misses.
On the next play Georgy shoots and hits Chiapas defender in the hand - pk.
Zhenya R. makes no mistake 2-1. Chiapas immediately equalizes 2-2. Damn!
Eventually, Chiapas scores 1 more to win 3-2.

75F, very pleasant

This game was played on a new field 2 minutes away from Cook campus. The quality of the field was unsurpizingly bad. We were missing a lot of people, so two guys from Sputnik, Zhenya and Sasha were helping us out. Perepolnennie tribuny included Vovchik and Eugene Ko.

In the first 25 minutes Raza totally dominated in possession, however, they failed to create scoring chances. Their domination was achieved in part due to their superior skill level and in part by our 'tactical' mistakes. First, we lacked close marking, letting them receive the ball, turn around and go at us. More importantly, there was a big gap between D and M, leaving Raza a lot of open space to operate. Basically, D was staying behind, not moving up the field as we were trying to attack.

At any rate, despite their domination we scored first. As Raza was attacking, everyone on the field except for Raza's goalie was on our half. One long ball and Ura goes one on one and scores! 1-0. Raza scored 1 minute later. They continued attacking and one of their long shots deflected off our defender's back, changed direction and went into opposite corner, 1-1. 10 minutes later Raza scored again neatly utilizing short one-touch passes to move the ball from center circle to inside the box. Their forward went one on one and scored, 1-2. That was amazing to watch considering field quality.

On 25th minute we realized our 'tactical' mistakes. The gap was closed, marking became more close resulting in several good attacks and shots on goal on our part. It was great to finally see some thought and not just blind passes vpered na avos' that were eaten up by Raza's D.

Raza scored third goal off the corner kick. Podacha, udar golovoi, myach v devyatke. Very nice goal. I don't remember though whether it happened in the closing moments of the first half or in the beginning of the second half. The second half featured more or less even play. There were not many scoring chances. The most memorable was Urik's one on one but he missed the goal. Also there was a pass back to the goalie from Raza's D which the goalie picked up. Referee decided not to call it.

Overall, very poor game, way too many passes v nikuda, but in our defense we were missing a lot of people.

9/1/2001 GAME 19

                 TORNADO - HUAJUAPAN 2 - 0
                 V. Bogomolny (1)
                 Y. Goliyad (1)
Honestly, considering Huajuapan's position in league table and the fact that they were one man short I thought we were going to blow them out. According to Val R. they somehow (through couple of chernozhopih) beat 1st place Chiapas in the last round so otsutstvie etih chernozhopih vselyalo extra uverennost'. But it turned out to be a difficult game. Possession was even which is very surprizing considering we had man advantage. I thought that we would keep them at their end of the field for most of the game but I was wrong. They managed to attack us rather often. We created only a handful of scoring chances. However, these were very good chances including several one on ones by Ura and a very good chance by Val from inside vratarskoi.

The first goal came pretty early. There was a long pass forward, Ura managed to obognat' defender who had a good 3-4 meters on him crating 2 on 1. Pass across to Val B. who misshit the ball but it still went in. Second goal came in the middle of the second half as Ura had one on one and outwaited the keeper, 2 - 0.

Overall, chaotic, everybody was afraid to hold on to the ball like it was a grenade. And if somebody did, everybody shouted 'Faster, faster'. I agree that we should not hold the ball for too long but AT LEAST ENOUGH to look around and make precise pass. You've got to know what you'll do with the ball even BEFORE you get it. But I guess that's the way we play all the time so nothing surprizing. Should've blown them away.

8/26/2001 GAME 18

                 TORNADO - MILAN 1 - 0
                 E.Ryazanov (30')

Very hot.
First of all, I want to thank Artem again, for being able to come and for the quite performance.
Second, the MVP of the game goes to Alex Rikshpun, who had a great game and the save (read below).
Now - the game. Well, if we had another game on Monday, I'm not sure we would be able to run at all. Esp., under the conditions, we were put - hot, very bad field, very fast opponent. Milan is deploying tactic, that isa little different from the other teams. They move very quickly and start from deep zone. They also attack in groups - through one flank or the other, creating "chislennoe preimushestvo" on that flank. Another tactic, they had, was "navesy" in penalty area. And, if they were succesfull in this exercise, playing with their fellows mexicans, the weight, height and skills of A.Grinberg didn't allow them to show anything in the air. They even tried to poke his eye, hit him in the back, but, you know, even if he doesn't jump he still would be able to intercept those crosses.
The game started from our domination in creating the scoring chances. We had very many situations, where the final shot, would made the goal. But you have to remember the field, we played on. The ball didn't go in. I remeber at least 5 or 6 moments, where the shots were made from the penalty area or close to it, but wide. The field's quality didn't allow to make the precise passes, either. Not, that we tried to pass :-). Also, in cases, where there should have been pass, we shot, and where we should have shot, we passed.
The opposite team didn't stand, either. Their forwards were troubling our defense and long passess behind were very dangerous threats.
But here goes 30th-35th minute. Cross from the right (Maradona). Eugene R and Val B in the goal area in front of one defender and one goalie. Either of them could finish it, but they remember thousands spectators were waiting for the show. And they start passing the ball to each other. Eugene R gave up first and hit the ball from 1-2 meter distance. 1:0!!
That would be it if there was not THE SAVE of A.Rikshpun. The rest of the game was one scenario. They are attacking. Sometimes, very dangerously. But they can not find the clear shot, or good finish. We are watching Val B., who is fighting with the field, that gives a defender very big advantage before a forward. We are "giving advices" to each other. The game goes on. 10 minutes to the end. We are leaving their forward in the middle of "vratarskoy". He gets the ball. A couple of defenders are closing on him. He's got the balls to make a fake move, that throws our goalie on the right. And than shoots low from 2 meters to the right side. The ball goes in. Even after Alex jumps and deflects the ball with his right arm, its trajectory was not very convincing. But the ball goes wide. Alex "morshitsa". Corner...
The referee was "sobaka beshenaja" until the final whistle, that happened to be on 39(!!!) minute of the second half :-).
We got our win!!!
P.S. Chiapas lost to "Hujapas" 1:3. That's their second loss. "Hujapas" got a couple of big boys, "that run like horses".

8/25/2001 GAME 17

                 TORNADO - REAL 3 - 0
                 G.Klein (60')
                 V.Bogomolny (70', 80')

"Oops, we did it again,
we won zero-three ..."
(Almost Britney)

Since I still have the access to the page, I’ll bore you with a long description of our game, but I’m doing it for our "european" friends.
Please, do not let the score deceive you and give a false impression about the opposite team. It was very skilled team with good forwards and defense. We were just better :-). Not lucky, mind you, but better. OK, enough sentiments…
The game started with the series of attacks from both sides. Both teams decided to play without the middle lines and after a short fight the ball was going in one or the other direction. In this game we deployed the flanks more actively, than usually and we were trying to pass from forward to forward, which was very enjoyable to watch.
* Gene Klein has a break one on one. He dribbles through a couple of defenders and comes to the left corner of the goal. One on one and clear shot. But he sees Maradona on the right side. We knew, that Gene was not “zhadina”, and here we go … . The pass to the right was either too fast, or the field changed the direction, or Maradona did not expect it (I wouldn’t) and the ball goes wide on the right side.
* Real answered with a couple of attacks. One of them was really dangerous. It started from the right side of the middle of the field. Pass to the flank, beautiful “stenka”, and long pass to the right in the area between “vratarskoy” and penalty area. The angle was not very bad and great shot of Uma goes to the goal post. That was our luck. I should say, that they were making very dangerous shots from outside of the penalty area throughout the whole first half, but the pressure from our defenders didn’t allow them to make them very precise.
* We had a couple of real chances to score from the passes from flanks, but alas. Either pass was not good, or their defender neutralized our forwards.
* But the first half was ours 70-30. A couple of corners were great executed by Robert. And A.Grinberg gave the Real’s guys a couple of shivers, trying to finish the corners by headshots.
* First half 0:0. We are looking much stronger. They have a couple of moments, but our defense is calm and confident.
* Second half. 55’. Charlie gives a great pass to E.Ryasanov, “v razrez” in the penalty area on the left flank and Eugene goes on one on one. The defender is trying to catch him and uses the “last resort” – tackle from behind. Penalty! E.Klein shoots in the right corner, the goalkeeper falls to the left … 1:0.
* They started to play as they supposed to, trying to equalize. But they forgot, that we do not change the tactic to defending even if we lead. And we’ve got V.Bogomolny, who is so hungry for the goals.
* 65’-70’. A great “naves” from the middle in the penalty area a little on the right side. The goalkeeper and two real defenders goes for the ball. ValB decides not to participate in “grupovuxa” and catches the ball after two defenders fall hitting and really hurting each other. The goalie was somewhere underneath them. ValB has the ball against the empty net. The only guy ha had to beat was Maradona, who was trying to steal the thunder from ValB. But Maradona was tired and ValB, “otpixnuv ego korpusom” put the ball in the net: 2:0
* The Real started to press more. And we saw great defense in action. Alex Rikshpun deflects great direct kick, that was made from 3-5 meters from the penalty area and was going over the wall “pod perekladinu”. S. Kozyrenko “vytashil” the ball from the goal line, that was going in there on the level of his shoulder. I couldn’t have done it. But his “corronyi” move – the whole body moves, like in dance and the ball moves from the right shoulder to the left and surprisingly not in the net, not hitting the arm – WIDE!
* 80-85’. ValB makes the break one on one, pushes the ball to the right underneath the goalie, jumps over him and runs for the ball – 3:0!!!
* Real tries to do everything to get something, but …

Post match reaction.
I tried to get a couple of interview:
Player#1: “Bliad. Eto-pizdec”
Player#2: “I fell oxyitel’no”
That can be summed up by Charlie’s words: “Guys, great game”

8/19/2001 GAME 16

                 TORNADO - RUTGERS 3 - 0
                 G.Ryazanov (1)
                 A.Prymak (1)
                 G.Klein (1)
80F, very pleasant

It was our very solid game. And I can not say, that Mario's team was that weakened "by injuries, and missing players" as he had claimed. We started with the pressure, and it gave its fruits. A couple of very good scoring chances were created.
Their goalkeeper and defender couldn't handle the ball on the side of penalty area and ValB had just empty net and no one around. But, voila, the luck was on the Rutgers' side - he misses.
That gave a boost for the Rutgers for about 3 minutes, as the very good break of Eugene Kl was interrupted by the foul in the penalty box - PENALTY. Eugene R was calm and confident. So confident that he makes a vicious move - he makes the strike before the whistle, Mario saves the shoot, Rutgers are happy, but referee shows on the penalty mark again. The second time - GOAL! 1:0. Rutgers are angry, but that was Eugene's goal, if I understand him correctly :-)
After that, Rutgers pressed to make the score even. They did have a couple of good scoring chances, but, come on - you can not have luck two games in a row with us.
After the break, we didn't change the tactic and attacked more. The ball was not held in the middle that much, as we or they were making attacks. We were succeeding more and more. May be if Mario didn't kiss the ball each time he got it, they would have escaped with 1:0 :-). But another break of Maradona, who proved his "shortname" in this game, led to the beatifull goal. Maradona dribbled through the penalty area from the middle to the left side going one on one and in order not to kick too wide or high he pushes the ball between Mario's legs - 2:0!!.
In the last five minute another beatifull combination of Eugene Kl and Fima led to the final goal 3:0. It was classical one touch wall "stenochka" Gene-Fima-Gene in the penalty area, and Gene didn't hesitate to net the ball.
I just want to say, that we had a very good game and point out on the speed and stamina of Maradona, very good play of Georgiy, who didn't give a lot of space in the middle and confidence of Kyian in the defense.

8/05/2001 GAME 15

                 TORNADO - PUMAS 0 - 0

90+F, very hot and humid

Well, that was the second week of league's cruel and unusual punishment against Tornado. Besides the field which is more useful for agricultural purposes than for soccer, the game was played at 12:30 when the heat index was probably around 100. There were no subs but there were few fans which included injured players (Alex R., Fima and E. Korsunsky), Boris, Yasha, Arkady and Roma. Alik Karger was presiding as a coach. A few words about lineup: Zhenya R. was playing forward with Val B. since Ura and Maradona were not able to make it. Sasha Borisov was playing right defense in his debut as a starter.

Once again the game looked more like table tennis with ball bouncing around in the midfield. Scoring chances were scarce. Seemed like nobody wanted to hold the ball like it was a grenade. As soon as players received the ball they wanted to get rid of it first touch. Like in all previous games we were trying to go for a slam dunk with a long pass and opponent was trying to go with short passes.

As I stated before there were very few scoring chances. However, these included 3 breakaways, not clean but still breakaways. In the first half, Georgy and Zhenya R. had breakaways. Zhenya R. tried to chip the goalie, succeded in that but the ball narrowly missed the post. In the the second half, Zhenya R. had another breakaway but hit it right in the goalie. Val B. also had a great chance to score but the goalie made an incredible save. It seemed like Val was shooting into the empty net... There were a few half chances inside the box for both teams but none as 100% as 4 described above.

Another thing worth mentioning is 5 minutes into 2nd half the ref ejected PUMA player for elbowing Sasha B. so we had man advantage throughout 2nd half.

7/29/2001 GAME 14

                 TORNADO - INTER 3 - 0
                 G.Klein (1)
                 A.Rikshpun 2nd (1)
                 Own goal (1)
75F, fair

This makes it 2 victories in a row! Now we’re finally at .500 having 5 wins, 5 losses along with 3 ties and goal differential -2.

First of all, I should mention that this game we had a new goalie (Alex Rikshpun, 2nd). Its not like he had a lot of work in goal but his professional looks and manners gave a lot of confidence to the entire team. INTER also seemed to be intimidated by him to say the least.

The game was played pretty evenly, most of the action was in the midfield. Very few scoring chances. Actually, it looked more like table tennis, not football. The field was absolutely atrocious. INTER had minimal advantage in possession. That means they were able to complete 3 passes in a row and we were able to complete 2. All our attacks were started with a goal kick or a long throw (by goalie) hoping Maradona or Ura will be able to run up to the ball. INTER, on the other hand tried to go through with short passes.

The 1st half ended 1:0. I remember a throw in from the sideline, the ball was hit towards INTER’s goal, defender shot it back, we hit it back, the ball hit INTER defender, bounced off the ground, changed direction, fooled the goalie and went in. Not surprising at all considering quality of the field. There was another chance to score before the halftime as Ura, Alex P. and Zhenya R. went 3 on none (goalie) and somehow did not score.

In the 2nd half the game was mostly played on our half of the field. Even though INTER had more possession they could not do anything with it. On one of our counter attacks Gene K. was able to put the ball over the goalie 2-0. Alex R. 2nd scored from the spot as Val B. was brought down in the penalty area 3-0. Val B. was going 1 on 1 with the keeper but 2 defenders took him down. There was another golden opportunity to score as we had 3 on 1 but...

INTER had one really good chance to score as their forward went 1 on 1 on our right side but the shot narrowly missed the far corner. There were also a few half chances.

Overall, good solid game considering field quality.

7/22/2001 GAME 13

                 TORNADO - SPORTING 2 - 1
                 Y. Goliyad (2) unknown (1)
80F, hot

For some reason I have a feeling SPORTING underestimated us. I think they came out looking for an easy win (they most likely heard about our performance last game). From the first minutes our defense showed a lot of composure passing the ball around between themselves, not shooting it out the way they do on most occasions. Personally, I was very happy to see us holding the ball and having some possession. Usually, its our forwards that have to chase the ball while opponent’s defenders calmly pass it around. SPORTING relied a lot on long ball in the 1st half instead of short passes that most teams in this league employ. It seemed like they wanted to score fast and without much work. That tactic proved to be ineffective as Alex R. almost always one-timed it back to their half. Interestingly enough, that’s the tactic that we employ. Another thing that I particularly liked was that our defense was not playing deep, Alex G. was coming up to meet SPORTING attackers almost in the midfield. I should also mention Gene Klein who was running nonstop the whole game with ankle injury winning many balls in the midfield.

Overall, the game was played pretty evenly. Two goals by Yura G. came almost out of nowhere. I don’t remember any buildup that preceded these goals. In both cases one second nothing was going on, the next second Yura was one on one burying the ball in the far corner. Alex P. also had a few chances but hit the post on both occasions. Val B. also had a breakaway chance but put the ball over the net as he tried to chip the keeper. Recalling that chance – Zhenya R. was coming along with Val B. but I think Zhenya R. was a little in front of Val and the ref would have called the offside if Val passed the ball to Zhenya. SPORTING had no real chances to score. There were a few long shots, on several occasions they were able to penetrate our penalty area but they did not have time and space to make that final shot.

And finally, there was an incident with about 5 minutes remaining in the game. SPORTING’s forward hit Vova in the head with his boot on purpose after they collided. There was no whistle from the referee so Alex F. decided to take matters into his own hands – he kicked that guy back with his foot. The referee noticed and blew the whisle. Shortly thereafter Vova decked that guy – he dropped like he was hit by a lightning. The bottom line - 3 red cards (Vova, Alex F. and 1 SPORTING player) and Alex P. – Alik K. substitution. For more accounts of this incident and opinions - read FORUM.

SPORTING was able to score 1 after the ball slipped from Alik K.’s hands creating a few nervous moments in the final 5 minutes.

7/15/2001 GAME 12
                 TORNADO - SABOR 3 - 5
                 A. Prymak (2) unknown (5)
                 Y. Goliyad (1)
75F, nice and brezzy

Bottom line: led 3-0 and lost 3-5.

1st half

The game started more or less even and continued to be even almost until the end of the first half. 3-0 lead came not because of our dominance but rather due to a few moments of brilliance from Alex P. and Yura G. and a few mistakes by Sabor.

There was an early chance for Sabor to score as they almost curved the ball off the corner kick into the far corner but Alex R. hit it out almost from the goal line.

The scoring started when Alex G. shot the ball forward from our side of the field. It was supposed to be an easy catch for their keeper but this game was played with nice soft ball and not the rock we usually play with. The ball simply bounced over the keeper who was standing on the edge of his penalty area and Alex P. headed it into the empty net. 1-0.

Second goal came after a standard situation. Eugene K. tried to curve the ball off the free kick. The angle was very sharp and the keeper came out relatively far because he thought that the only logical thing was to ‘navesit’’. After a few bounces the ball came to Yura G. who scored into the empty net practically from the goal line.

Sabor started to attack more but they still didn’t have any chances to score. However, on one of their shots the ball hit the hand of our defender – pk. They hit the post. It should have been 2-1 but became 3-0 a few minutes later. Alex P. ran to a long ball, came out one on one with the keeper and scored with his left foot. 3-0. Next it should have become 4-0 but became 3-1. First, Charlie had clear one on one but shot from outside the box when everyone stopped thinking offside. He could have carried the ball 10 more meters. That turned out to be the turning point of the game as Sabor really started to put pressure. I started to get the feeling that goal was coming and eventually it did. Sabor scored as their forward ‘prorvalsya po levomu flangu’ and shot from ~10 meters out. 3-1. At that point we started ‘prosto otbivatsya’.

2nd half

‘Prosto otbivalis’ all second half. Sabor was really putting a lot of pressure. We were unable to hold on to the ball. As soon as our D was shooting it away, the ball ended up ‘u Sabora’ and their attack continued. Sabor ‘pressingoval’ all second half. As soon we had possession 2-3 Sabor players were jumping on the man with the ball causing a turnover.

Approximately 10 minutes into second half Sabor scored. Their forward ran through the middle and shot from 9-10 meters right in the corner. 3-2. Few minutes later, cross from our left side – Sabor forward heads the ball in from inside ‘vratarskoi’, 3-3. A little later we were able to catch Sabor on the counter as Ura G. came one on one with the keeper but I think he had too much time. The shot was over the net. Right after that chance Sabor scored. Our defender was shooting the ball ‘ot vorot’, hit Sabor’s forward who calmly put in the far corner from ~ 8 meters. 3-4. We were given another one on one chance a few minutes later. Everyone stopped thinking offside except for Alex P. The ball went over the net again. Few minutes later Sabor put an icing on the cake as their shot hit the referee and went right into upper corner. 3-5. That was the worst half we ever played losing it 0-4.

1st half

We played poor soccer in the 1st half. RENA scored very quickly, after about 5 minutes. Their forward beat our defender ‘na skorosti’ on the right flank and put the ball across. They just had to not miss an open net. That goal was very demoralizing because it came completely out of nowhere, the game was more or less even up to that point, I think we also had our share of possession. After that u nas opustilis’ ruki, we stooped running. At that point RENA took over possession, they went totally unchallenged through our midfield, like a knife through warm butter. However, they did not have any scoring chances. Our defense stopped all their efforts na podstupah k shtrafnoi. We had only one real chance to score – Charlie put a beautiful ball across to Ura who almost went one on one with their keeper but shot was over the net. By the end of the half we were very tired from sun, humidity and from chasing RENA players.

2nd half

The 2nd half was completely different. We came out angry, challenging them for every ball, fouling them hard rather often. I also think they started to get cocky, trying to show their individual skill, holding the ball a little longer than necessary. In those cases we fouled them hard.

Quick otstuplenie about emotions: I am a rather calm person, trying to be nice to everybody, but after they knocked me down a few times from the back I was ready to explode. I remember at the end of 1st half some guy elbowed me in the back for no reason at all. That really got me going. I made 2 steps towards him with 1 intention - to just kick him as hard as I can but stopped at the last moment realizing that he didn’t have the ball. Just for the record, I took down the next available guy who had the ball. The point is: unfortunately, I need to be pushed and taken down a few times to get angry and start playing hard. Needless to say, I was pretty mad coming on the field for the 2nd half. If RENA player tried to be fancy and didn’t pass the ball before I got to him I just took him down. Forget the ball.

Approximately 15 minutes into the half, RENA scored second goal. There was a throw-in to the player who was in offside position but there are no offsides on the throw-in. I don’t remember whether he scored himself or passed it across. Nevertheless, RENA scored, 2-0. There was a little get -together after that goal. The guy who scored pushed Vova for no reason at all, so Vova punched him in the head. We all got together, discussed it in a civilized way (Vova was shouting ‘I will kill you all, you Spanish pieces of shit, etc...). We were pretty pissed to say the least.

After that 2 spectacular (lucky) volleys followed. First one by Alex F. from our left side 3-4 meters from sideline, 6-7 meters outside the box right into far upper corner. Better than Georgy Hadgi in Champions League last season but approximately from the same position. 5 minutes later Eugene K. scored. I’m not sure from what distance but it was very very far, I think ~10 meters from center circle right under the crossbar. 2-2! These were 2 lucky goals but a few minutes after we had a real scoring chance – Charlie crossed to Ura who hit the ball right into their keeper’s chest from 2 meters. I can’t even imagine joy we would have experienced if it went in. No fortuna otvernulas’ ot nas.

Unfortunately, RENA was able to score with just 2 minutes remaining. Prohod po levomu flangu, prostrel, gol v pustie vorota. 2-3 final.

1st half

From the start I should mention that we were playing against 1st place team with 5-0-3 record (according to Val B.) The 1st half was played more or less even. Our opponent dominated in possession while we looked extremely dangerous on counter attacks. Vova played great, saving a couple of ‘dead’ balls. I think we could have scored a couple on the counter. Zhenya R. had the best chance coming one on one with their keeper (not a clean one on one, a couple of defenders were on his back) but just as he was shooting, the ball hit kochku and jumped on him resulting in miss hit. The score line was 0-0 after 1st half.

2nd half

In the 2nd half we completely lost in possession game and were relying on counter attacks only. We were unable to have any possession in the midfield. Our opponents started to attack more dangerously and to be honest I had a feeling ‘gol nazrevaet’ that is goal is coming. Soon thereafter they were able to score (’65) but it was absolutely beautiful shot. Vova had no chance on that. After the goal we still were unable to create anything. Eventually, we were able to score off a free kick with only 10 minutes remaining in the game. Alex R. spotknulsya o kochku and we were awarded a free kick about 1 meter outside the box right at the center. They created a wall but that wall needed 1 more person (or needed to be shifted) because there was a clear opening of about 30-40 cm. E. Korsunky got a nod from the ref and curled it around the wall right into that opening, 1-1. That was our only real chance to score in 2nd half and we managed to take advantage of it. There were also several handballs in the box with minutes remaining (one for each team) but the ref decided not to call penalty kicks since handballs were totally unintentional. Our opponents also hit a crossbar and a post but I don’t remember at what stage of the half it happened. I should give a special mention to Georgy who played really great as a defensive midfielder covering pretty much center, left and right midfield.

Overall, great game against a very skilled opponent. The game was very clean, there was only 1 whistle in 1st half due to foul.

1st half

First of all, I should mention that the other team was 1 player short. From the very beginning it became apparent that we are much faster and stronger than our opponents. The chances followed shortly. In a span of 5 minutes there were 3 clear one on one breakaways but none resulted in a goal. A bit later we scored but the goal was disallowed due to offside. Yura G. and Alex P. came 2 on none, Yura G. passed to Alex P. who scored but was in offside position. Finally, a goal was scored – Alex P. and Yura G. come 2 one 1, Alex P. passed across and Yura G. put it in the open net 1-0. The second goal came after another one on one breakaway by Alex P. who chipped the goalie and put it in right upper corner, 2-0.

Overall, we totally dominated the 1st half, both in possession and opportunities but the score was only 2-0.

2nd half

The rain and wind picked up so I had to hide in the car since I forgot my rain jacket. The other team gained 1 player so its 11 vs 11 now. The game became more or less even. The other team were able to get 1 goal back about 15 minutes through 2nd half. Somehow, their forward broke through several of our defenders, came one on one with our keeper and very nicely put the ball over him, 2-1. The other team started to attack more but there were no clear cut chances. Soon thereafter Val B. who just came in for Yura G. passed across and Gene Kl. ‘onetouched’ it, 3-1. And finally, fast counter that was started by our keeper resulted in a spectacular shot by Alex P. over their keeper, 4-1.

6/10/2001 GAME 7
                 TORNADO - MILAN 2 - 2

A lot of chances including several 1 on 1. All 4 goals scored in the last 7 minutes of the game with 3 goals coming on penalty kicks. First, Milan took lead on PK with 7 minutes remaining. Tornado scored the next two (1 on PK). In the dying moments of the game Milan was able to equalize from the spot.

"We had thrilling last 7 minutes yesterday :) The score was 0-0 - we played pretty decent in defense and had a couple of nice chances to score. Y. Ryazanov had a nice run one on one but his shot was saved by the goalie.

We made all 3 substitutions at halftime. One of our defenders played the ball with his hands. Alex took over at the goal, Alex Karger left the field - so we played last 7 mins with 10 players on the field. Sure they scored from the penalty. BTW the referee was the same dishonest motherfucker. :(

This fucking goal has awaken us, we ran to the counter attack, Yuri was pushed near their goal and referee gave us a penalty kick. I know for sure that if we had not told him that we would complain - he would not give us the penalty.

Eugene Klein and Yuri asked Y. Ryazanov to shoot. That was not good strong shot, keeper almost got it but the ball ended up in the net. :) anyway - Y. Ryazanov scored! 1-1

At 3 mins to the end we had a nice attack, Georgy's shot was deflected and then Y. Ryazanov almost ripped appart the net :) 2-1

And ... there was another handball by one of our defenders in the box - Penalty kick, goal, whistle... 2-2.... so .. we could have lost .. then we could have won .. but finished with a draw. :) "

I don’t think comments are really necessary considering the above scoreline. Losing first half 0:1, allowing 4 more goals in the second half.

We played terrible in the first half losing 0:3. First goal - our defender beaten one on one on our right side and shot went in near corner. Second goal - same thing but shot goes in far corner. Third goal - poor clearance off corner kick and shot goes in through 15 players. In the second half Yurik scored from free kick. Shortly thereafter Val R. shot hit Yurik, Yurik managed to control the ball and neatly passed to Gene Klein who went one on one with goalkeeper and scored despite very sharp angle. We had a few more chances in the 2nd half including one on one. The other team also had lots of chances since we started to gamble and take chances defensively.

5/20/2001 GAME 4

Rather even game. A lot of chances for both sides. Two goals scored off corner kicks. Another goal also off corner kick disallowed. First goal - ball deflects outside the box, shot hits one of their forwards in the head and deflects in. Second goal - ball deflects outside the box, shot goes through 15 players and goes in.
